'It's Okay' Can Go A Long Way.
Working in a retail or a supermarket environment is hard. Like REALLY difficult. You have to put on a false mask of continuous acceptance no matter how people treat you.
I work in a really busy supermarket where now and then I will bump into customers or vice-versa. My immediate reaction when touching any stranger is to say "sorry, I didn't mean to," even when it is not my fault. Eight out of ten times customers will also say sorry and we have this awkward laugh off about the situation. However, some customers can suddenly be immensely offended and storm off whilst muttering something nasty. And as a customer assistant, this can make you feel pretty shitty. Even if I have a row of really lovely customers, one crappy customer can ruin my day. So I feel like people - including retail/supermarket workers - should just stand back from the situation sometimes and ask "was it really that bad?" I just feel like an "it's okay" can go a long way in a worker's day.
