Cultural Shock - South of France (Lyon)
THE DRIVING
(This is a comparison to the South-East of England.)
In England, more specifically, Sussex, people will just walk out, run out even, across zebra crossings because that is the faith we have in our fellow driver citizens. However, that is not the case in Lyon. There are zebra crossings...yet no-one stops for the awaiting walkers. The drivers...for some reason...are all on their mobile phones? Is that legal? No obvious speed signs, so drivers go whatever speed they please from twenty miles-per-hour to (not even exaggerating) fifty miles! Walking around Le Place Bellecour and there are cars chugging up and down each street filled with civilians but there are no visible road signs or markings...
But I guess there's always places like Chad and Thailand.
